ETUDES No2 : QUAND L'ARDOISE RENCONTRE LES VACHES NOIRES
2016. Ceramic (earthenware and stoneware), slate, glass, fabric, rope, polystyrene plates. Varying dimensions, Caen (France).
Étude N°2... is an attempt to build both a theoretical and empirical space which allows for an encounter principally between two materials: slate and ceramic extracted from the “vaches noires” cliffs in Villers-sur-Mer in Normandy. Following this first encounter, a series of actions takes place such as embellishment, hybridisation and finery. The dialogue between the two materials is instinctively expanded to give way to others, sometimes similar or contrasting. The work occupies a space on the ground, and, thus the viewer can stroll through a landscape of both closed and open forms, focusing on the intentional or accidental “smallness”.
